These water mills and farm, having stood for hundreds of years, was discovered by my sister, Caryn, during her search for sanctuary, away from the ever growing urbanization and pollution, which so frequently erodes our quality of life.
“Cabeça do Mato”, or “head of the arid scrubland” provides a nest for us all to go and collect our thoughts. Somewhere to marvel at the beauty of the nature that surrounds us.
The house is being rebuilt, the land re-worked, with the love and hard labour of cousins, and friends. Each brick and beam replaced by Steve, the childrens’ father, is laid with love for his family. He keeps his spirits lifted singing along with reggae, giving praise to Jah, who helps him to fulfil their dreams. Once building work is complete, the mill will house the family, and adjoining apartments will give temporary relief to those wishing for an alterative holiday.
Electricity already supplied by solar energy, will be joined, when finances allow, by a hydro-electric generator, which will be built around the neighbouring fast flowing river, that runs through the valley.
Their ever expanding organic farming can take over, as they make their humble living, happily in harmony with their surroundings, caring for the generations to come.

Os moinhos de água e a quinta estão aqui à mais de cem anos e foram descobertos pela minha irmã, Caryn, durante uma busca por um santuário longe da urbanização e poluição, que tão frequentemente destroem a nossa qualidade de vida. “Cabeça do Mato” oferece uma casa para a família da minha irmã e um espaço para nós encontrarmos os nossos pensamentos. É um sítio para apreciar a beleza da natureza que nos rodeia.
A casa está a ser reconstruída, a terra a ser retrabalhada, com o amor e esforço dos rimos e amigos. Cada pedra e cada cãibra são repostas por Steve, o pai das crianças que o faz com amor pela sua família. Mantendo o seu espírito positivo, cantando ao som do Reggae e dando graças a Jah, que os ajuda a realizar os seus sonhos. Assim que as obras estiverem concluídas, o moinho irá abrigar a família e as casas anexas irão trazer alívio temporário para aqueles que procuram umas férias alternativas.
A electricidade, já fornecida por sistema solar será complementada, assim que as finanças o permitirem, por um gerador hidroeléctrico, que será construído no rio que corre pelo vale.
A sua quinta, sempre em crescimento poderá então funcionar, à medida que vivem a sua vida modesta e em harmonia com o que os rodeia, cuidando assim das gerações que virão.
